these images are important to me because they carry a lot of meaning. lisa and i are good friends, and we end up spending a lot of time together climbing, shooting photos, talking, etc. lisa's also quite politically active, and decided to volunteer for the new voters project for her service learning (if you go to uwec you know). great, i'm all about new voters.
well, she ended up spending about 15-30 hours a week doing nvp, so it really consumed her free time. as her friend, it seemed that it was really taking over her life and keeping her from doing a lot of things that she likes doing. i was sitting talking to her (coincidentally, while she did nvp stuff) when she was wearing this hat, pulled down over her eyes. the whole idea of this nvp hat covering her face struck me as a metaphor for her life lately, so i asked her if i could shoot her wearing that hat.
so we did. close, unmodulated studio strobes & rodinol for the gritty, contrasty look.
