snow/snowfall/etc

august first

four to six months out of the year, i have the chance to take snow pictures. i take every chance i get, mostly because i love the contrast that snow offers. these are some results...

the first two are car windows during a very heavy february snowfall this past year. the first is my minivan window, the second my aunt's accord window.

the third picture was in the eau claire best buy parking lot. the snow was really coming down. cool.

the fourth is kind of a texture picture more than a single subject frame. i used my telephoto to compress the perspective in the woods behind my house. if you view the full size picture, you'll see that there are oak leaves interspersed in the black and white branches.

once i came to youth group early, before my yp was there to unlock it, so i walked around taking pictures in the parking lot and a nearby pond. the third picture is rather self explanatory, i believe.

and finally, the last picture is grass in my yard, covered with snow. this was our last snowstorm of the 2001-2002 winter, in april sometime i believe. it was really wet snow that was just coming down like none other. i noticed it building up on the grass this way, so i brought a ladder and a light out and took about a half a roll of snow pictures. this is the best of the bunch. i've never seen snow do this before! this picture was in my winter gallery before, but i decided to put it here to fill things out.

#1. good thing the lights are illuminating snowflakes instead of mosquitoes! the wind must have been gusty, because the picture seems to have caught the snow in the act of...departing. what i want to know is, why is there a light in the corner of the picture? are the lamps really that close together?

#2. the brown leaves are really contrasting. it almost reminds me of something bev doolittle would paint. whats hidden in the picture?

#3. its neat how packy snow conforms even to little things like tire grids.

#4. i dont know if i like the picture, but it is amazing how different snow can be. is the grass really that irrepressible or is the snow weightless?
