winter

september twenty-first

winter is a great season. before i started working on this page, i thought i didn't have many winter pictures, but i've been finding more and more of them to add to this category. enjoy!

i can't remember what exactly the weather was like for the first one, but looking at the picture it looks like it was moist the day before and then we had a hard frost. i love it when i wake up and everything, trees, grass, leaves, everything, is white with frost. probably my best picture for a long time; i don't even remember when i took it.

the next was taken coming home from chicago one night. it was snowing hard; i think it snowed about 5 inches that night. it was really powdery stuff that was just blowing all over the freeway. i was sitting in the back seat, bored, wishing i had something to do, when i noticed snow swirling in the headlights of the car behind us. the snow was building up on the back window, too, where the wiper wasn't catching it. i was hoping to catch more of the snow on this road, but the headlights really defined my exposure. the horizontal lines are the defroster on the window. it's one of my most interesting pictures.

number three is kind of interesting. i was driving home from colfax when i came across this scene. i didn't have my good camera with me, just a cheap $40 cameo point-and-shoot. if you look at the enlarged photo, you'll see the quality. it's a gorgeous scene, though, so that is why it is here.

the next two are from a doorway in an abandoned barn. i like the second of the two more, but what appeals to me about the first is the refraction in the water droplet. look close!

the last picture is an icicle, right outside my back door. the moon is seen dripping off, freezing to the end.
