the pianist

january twentieth

i took these two pictures as part of an assignment for volume one, a local art/music magazine. the pianist in the pictures is jason craft, of uwec jazz one fame. i'm not sure if he personally has won a downbeat award, but i know in his stay with the ensemble, the college won numerous downbeat awards. he's awesome. his trio is a lot of fun to listen to, you can see them all over eau claire.

i like the energy in the pictures; the first (on the left) kind of sets up the second shot. the energy, the intensity, the passion of mr. craft are evident in his posture, his movement. maybe you had to be there, maybe you need to know crafty, but in any case i like these pictures.

look for some more pictures of this concert in the february issue of volume one.

the first is a good picture...as far as taking a picture of a person hiding behind a piano, a couple microphones, and a percussion set goes. no, theyre cool, ben. wish i had been there to hear him play.

Hi Ben. I tore off one of your little look-at-my-website things from a board in HFA at UWEC. Looked through your site a couple of months ago. I'm really impressed. I've been working on and off with Volume One and thought of you immediately, so I think it's really cool that you are getting some of your photos in there.

I've always liked dragging a camera around with me, but flunked out of Photo 101 at Stout because I couldn't get the mechanical aspect of photography down on a "real" camera. I'm taking the foundation class over at UWEC this semester for my GD degree and it's going much better.

I will be checking back with your site regularly for inspiration and just, well... because it's so darn nice to look at. Great job on the site. Can't wait to see what follows.

thanks Jennifer, need I say? you're the best! i like volume one a lot, i'm happy about being able to contribute too.

as an update, this month's issue was getting to big, so the main editors cut out the typical concert picture page that these were to end up on. you may see them in the future, but i'm not sure.

in any case, keep checking out v1 because they're great!
