these pictures have an interesting story to them. follow on:
i was walking on the uwec walking bridge one cold night and noticed the interesting effect the lights have in cold air. i don't know how to describe it, so i won't try. anyhow, i also like the symmetry of the alternating lamps. i realized, though, that it'd be a weak picture without a person in it, so i recruited my friend sara to model for me. the night we picked to shoot the photos happened to be somewhere around -10°, which would have been alright if it wasn't for the people walking across the bridge one at a time. it seemed it never failed...someone would just be getting out of sight when someone else walked up. the bridge is kind of long, too, so it takes a good 2 or 3 minutes to walk across. so we stood there, jumping around, waiting for people to get across the bridge.
it seems that very few people understand photographers...everyone who asked why we were out in the cold with a camera didn't seem to understand the point. at one point this girl struck up a conversation with us about her best friend from high school who is going to a "fancy-smanshy art school" and turning into a real snob. it was kind of funny...if only i hadn't been trying to keep my fingers warm.
all in all, a very interesting and memorable shoot. thanks, sara!
