sand dunes
october 3rd
i took these pictures on the way home from arizona. we went through colorado for a few different reasons, but mostly garden of the gods in colorado springs. in any case, somewhere in south-central colorado my sister woke me up from my 7am slumber to venture around in these sand dunes. by some standards they are small, but it's definitely a lot bigger than my backyard and a lot more fun.
the only problem i had taking these pictures is that i had to choose which picture i wanted; most of them look the same, so to find the best out of a pool of available pictures is a challenge. you have every chance to take a perfect picture; after all, it's sitting still. the early morning light sculped the sand beautifully.
the first two are, well, your basic sand pictures. pretty, but cliche, maybe? the last one i like a lot. people say i'm tall...they've never seen me quite this tall. if you can't figure it out, it's my shadow falling down a sand dune. i wished there weren't footprints on the dune but i realized i'd have to take the picture the way it was since the sun was rising fast. it works.
i just looked around to see if i could figure out which park it was...turns out it was the great sand dunes national monument. hmm. that's a lot more special than i knew....i must have slept past the sign.
