on snow crust seen

march eighth

these two pictures were only a few feet away from each other, and completely as nature made them.

they are named forlorn friend and arced oak, two artsy names that i want to make sure you notice. ;)

i like 'em. i personally think that they are two of my best pieces of late, but that's always open to deliberation.

"arced oak" sounds much better than, for example, "curved leaf." are you going to rename any of your other pictures/galleries or just the new ones? i like the unevenness of the snow at the top of pic #2, but neither of these are very original shots.

ashe--

yeah, artsy names are cooler than plain ones. no, i won't be renaming my old galleries to be artsier.

about originality...it's kind of a quandry for me. with some shots, i'll frame them in my mind and realize that they've been taken before, so i will reject them. others, even though i know someone has taken the same shot, are just too interesting, challenging, or beautiful not to take for myself.

so there is something to be said for originality, yes. i try to avoid taking pictures that aren't very original. most of the time, i am aware that a picture like arced oak is not original, yet for me, the moment was just right and the challenge of getting uninterrupted snow around the leaf as well as showing the leaf's curve, etc, was too much to pass up.

First one uh, yeah, I like the shadows... I wasn't too sure what the thing was until I zoomed in and then I was like, "oh, it's a thing." so that's all cleared up now.
I really like the second one. I think it was on my desktop for awhile... very cool
