megan
october twentieth
instead of talking about this photo artistically, i'm just going to tell the story of taking it. it was taken under funnier circumstances than most, for sure.
so a couple nights before i shot these photos, i had seen what looked like a sweet photo up behind water street, in a doorway of a church. it was looking pretty good at night, with some really enigmatic light coming out of the doorway. i thought, "that'd look cool with someone standing there smoking," and filed it away in my photos-to-shoot memory.
a couple nights later, i was at acoustic cafe with my good friend megan, listening to jon sunde play. i had this photo on my mind and was antsy to take it, so we left to go scope it out. much to my dismay, the photo wasn't anything like i had remembered it--a horrible case of my imagination getting away with me. we decided to go ahead and work the area anyhow, so we trucked down to the holiday station on water street to pick up some cheap tobacco products.
great. paid $2.50 for five cigars (trust me, they weren't good. at all.) and headed back to the church to shoot. just as megan was lighting the first cigar, the light switched off! it was 10:00pm exactly, and apparently the light turns off automatically. curses! foiled again.
we ended up walking around the university looking for interesting lighting anyhow, and eventually ended up below the library.
i'm not really sure why i wanted smoking in these pictures, but it surrrrre does look neat!
