little house on the prairie
august eighteenth
i did a digital piece on this location a few months ago, but i wanted to show the original prints as well as some extras. it's an abandoned farmhouse near my house, perched up on top of a small hill. it's kind of sad to walk around and think of the people that used to live there but have since passed on. in another way, it seems to stand as a reminder of a time past, when things were simpler and more difficult all at once. the whole thing reminds me of giants in the earth, a great, depressing book about norwegian immigrants in south dakota. it's a good read.
the first picture is called not done yet; that's speaking to the glimmer of sunlight in the window of the house. it seems that the house still has something left to offer, even in it's deteriorated state. it seems to be falling off the end of the world at the same time; like it is sinking. interesting!
the second is the source of the digital piece; i like the open feel of the shot.
the third is kind of a complicated shot. i liked the sunlight on the door as well as the reflections on the window, so i put them in the same frame and i'm not sure what to think of the result.
