kristin

march twenty-seventh

this is kristin. she was kind enough to let me take pictures of her for a portrait project for my art class this semester, which makes her one of my favorite people. well, she was one of my favorite people before, but now she's just cemented her status.

photographically speaking, i was going for a dramatic, extremely contrasty look. i think i got it in this picture--i'm satisfied for the most part with the portrait. something is not quite perfectly sharp in the photo, though, which kind of bothers me. i'm not sure what caused it, because i was shooting at 1/125s, which should have been fast enough to catch her pose. also, i think my composition isn't quite ideal, but oh well. overall, i'm pleased with it.

thanks again, kristin!

Maybe I'm the one that's not quite perfectly sharp, and it wasn't your camera's fault.
Nonetheless... I give it a 5. :)

whoa! totally NOT informed of the 'ratings' system! i give props!

I'll have you know that I held a little gray card that helped make that picture possible....and I quite possibly gave her inspiration for the pose! Yeah, lookin' good!

do you remember what f stop you were set at? and what asa film were you using? It looks to me like you may have been using 100 asa film. I'm asking these quesitons because I would be curious to figure out what the slight soft-focus came from. It could just be that, perhaps you were slightly soft.

my f-stop was very low, probably a 2.8 or 4. i was shooting with cool florescent lights, and compared to strobes you're pretty limited in aperture when it comes to dynamic subjects.

i did have my camera on a tripod, i think kristin moved slightly when i took the picture since nothing is in precise focus in the picture. not that it's bad, it just is.
